Ömer Fethi Gürer proposes parliamentary inquiry into media issues

CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer has submitted a motion for a parliamentary inquiry to investigate the challenges facing both local and national media organizations. The proposal seeks the establishment of a commission within the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to examine various systemic issues.

Gürer highlighted concerns regarding the increasing difficulties for journalists, noting that detentions during news reporting have become common. He criticized the regulatory practices of RTÜK and the interpretation of laws that he claims restrict press freedom.

Additionally, the motion addresses labor conditions within the media sector, specifically citing issues such as subcontracting, job insecurity, wage policies, and the need for better union organization to protect media workers.
