Merak waters: Authorities secure KMP Batumandi wreck site

Authorities in Merak are implementing emergency measures following the sinking of the KMP Batumandi. To ensure maritime safety and protect the marine ecosystem, PT ASDP has deployed navigation buoys and oil booms around the vessel's coordinates. The buoys are positioned approximately 93 meters from the wreck to warn passing vessels of the underwater hazard, while the oil booms serve as a floating barricade to prevent potential oil leaks from contaminating the waters.

PT ASDP Corporate Secretary Windy Andale stated that securing the location is the current priority while technical evaluations for the salvage process are underway. The company is coordinating with relevant authorities to determine the safest method for recovering the wreckage.
