Meram hosts traditional grape harvest and molasses festival

The Meram Municipality held its fifth annual Traditional Grape Harvest and Molasses Boiling Festival in the Meram district of Konya. The event focused on preserving local agricultural traditions and the unique living culture of the region.

During the festival, various grape varieties including nazlı, dimrit, and aladiriz were harvested. The resulting juices were boiled in large cauldrons over wood fires to produce molasses. Participants were served traditional foods such as molasses, bulgur, and corn, and enjoyed local cultural performances like the Barana dance.

Konya Governor İbrahim Akın and Meram Mayor Mustafa Kavuş attended the event, participating in the traditional process of skimming the molasses. Mayor Kavuş stated that the goal of the festival is to carry Meram’s heritage and living culture to future generations.
