Meran–Hafling state road reopens after storm damage

The Meran–Hafling state road (LS 98) has officially reopened to traffic in both directions following extensive repairs. The road was previously closed due to significant damage caused by a severe storm on June 28, 2026.

Work focused on restoring the roadway in front of the north entrance of the Kathrein Tunnel. The reopening took place on Monday, August 10, at 6:00 PM. Infrastructure and Mobility Councilor Daniel Alfreider, along with local mayors and representatives from the road service and volunteer fire departments, conducted an inspection of the secured section before it was released to the public.

Alfreider noted that the rapid restoration of the road was essential for local citizens and businesses in Hafling. The project involved a collaborative effort between the provincial road service, local municipalities, and various South Tyrolean companies.
