Merano's Maia Racecourse Hosts Grand Prix Merano with €300,000 Prize
The historic Maia Racecourse in Merano, South Tyrol, anchors Italy's premier obstacle‑horse racing season. The venue, opened in 1900 and redesigned in 1935 by architect Paolo Vietti Violi, offers steeple‑chase, cross‑country and flat races set against an Alpine backdrop.
This year’s highlight is the Gran Premio Merano Alto Adige, scheduled for 26‑27 September, with a €300,000 purse that draws top Italian and international Thoroughbred jockeys and horses. The event also features supporting races, including competitions for the region’s emblematic Haflinger horses, and family‑friendly attractions such as playgrounds, pony rides and live music.
