Merauke Police identify father in murder of disabled child

Merauke Police have concluded a nine-month investigation into the murder of an 11-year-old girl with disabilities in Merauke. Authorities identified the suspect, a man identified by the initial M, as the victim's father.

Police Chief AKBP Leonardo Yoga stated that the killing was likely triggered by internal family issues. Investigations, which included forensic DNA testing, clinical psychology, and digital forensics, revealed that the suspect was under the influence of cannabis at the time of the incident. A urine test conducted in October 2025 confirmed the presence of narcotics.

The suspect faces charges under Article 80, Paragraph (3) of the Child Protection Law for violence against a child resulting in death. Investigators secured 26 pieces of evidence, including clothing, sharp weapons, and mobile phones.
