Mercado Libre ecosystem contributes USD 5.4 billion to Argentina

Mercado Libre has released its ‘Efecto MELI’ report, detailing the economic and social impact of its ecosystem across Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico. In Argentina, the platform’s activity generated over USD 5.4 billion in added value during 2025, representing approximately 1% of the nation's GDP, and supported 126,500 direct and indirect jobs.

The report highlights the scale of the ecosystem, noting that more than 3.5 million Argentine SMEs and entrepreneurs operated via Mercado Libre and Mercado Pago in 2025. Additionally, nearly 42,000 new sellers joined the platform during the year, with 67% of sellers noting it was their first experience with online commerce.

From a financial perspective, the company recently reported record Q2 revenue exceeding USD 10.17 billion, a 50% year-over-year increase. While operating income saw temporary compression due to aggressive investments in free shipping in Brazil and a significant expansion of its credit portfolio—which now exceeds USD 16 billion—the company continues to see massive merchant scale, with over 2.7 million SMEs operating within its ecosystem.
