Mexico: Sheinbaum inaugurates Mercado Libre robotic center in Hidalgo

President Claudia Sheinbaum inaugurated Mercado Libre’s first robotic distribution center in Villa de Tezontepec, Hidalgo. The facility, part of the Plan México investment initiative, represents an investment of over 600 million dollars and utilizes hundreds of robots to enhance logistics and storage capacity.

During the event, Sheinbaum emphasized that Mexico’s primary investment attraction has shifted from cheap labor to a highly sophisticated workforce of engineers. She noted that increased minimum wages have bolstered domestic purchasing power, supporting the growth of companies like Mercado Libre. Additionally, the inauguration coincided with the opening of the first stage of Carnot Laboratories.

In Hidalgo, economic growth is reported at 8 percent annually, driven by proximity to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) and upcoming passenger rail projects. The state is also seeing development through the establishment of Economic Development Poles for Wellbeing (PODECOBI).
