Mercado Livre expands Brazilian retail reach via live commerce and partnerships

Mercado Livre is expanding its influence in the Brazilian retail sector through new technology and strategic partnerships. The company has launched ‘Mercado Livre Live’, a social commerce tool that allows sellers, affiliates, and content creators to host live broadcasts directly within the app. This feature enables real-time product demonstrations and instant order fulfillment. The platform will debut this functionality with an eight-hour daily coverage operation during the Rock in Rio music festival.

Simultaneously, Mercado Livre is becoming a benchmark for Brazilian retail. In a significant move, Magazine Luiza announced it will list approximately 28,000 products from its own inventory—including items from KaBuM! and Época Cosméticos—on the Mercado Livre marketplace. This partnership follows a previous agreement with Casas Bahia. Analysts note that Mercado Livre has established a baseline for logistics, distribution, and audience engagement that is increasingly dictating the behavior of the broader retail market.
