Mercadona announces new store opening in Figueres and closure in Mallorca

The Spanish supermarket chain Mercadona has announced several changes to its retail footprint. A new supermarket is scheduled to open in Figueres, Spain, on November 16. Located in the Vilatenim commercial area, this establishment will feature the company's new “Botiga 9” format, which focuses on reorganized commercial spaces, increased fresh product areas, and improved operational efficiency. This will be the seventh location in Catalonia to adopt this specific model.

In contrast, the Mercadona location situated in the Arenal Park shopping center in Mallorca is set to close permanently on November 14. The closure has prompted reflections from the Amics de s’Arenal neighborhood association regarding the impact of losing such a commercial establishment on the local community, despite acknowledging the company's right to make private corporate decisions.
