Peru Shopping Day event offers up to 70% discounts
Peru is hosting the Shopping Day event on September 26 and 27, organized by the Asociación de Centros Comerciales y de Entretenimiento del Perú (ACCEP). The campaign involves over 90 shopping centers and approximately 9,000 stores, offering discounts of up to 70% and projecting sales of S/ 320 million with over 7 million expected visits.
Major shopping malls have scheduled special programming, including musical performances by artists like María Grazia Polanco and tributes to Grupo 5 and Gustavo Cerati, as well as fashion shows and family activities.
In light of the event, experts such as Kiara Tello from Zegel advise consumers to maintain financial control. Recommendations include setting a strict budget, distinguishing between actual needs and mere opportunities, comparing real prices rather than just discount percentages, and evaluating the total cost of credit installments rather than just monthly payments.
Separately, recent market data indicates a structural shift in Peruvian consumer behavior. Households are increasingly diversifying their shopping routes, visiting an average of 9.3 different stores or channels per quarter. While supermarket penetration has risen to 77%, discounters have also seen significant growth, reaching 70% penetration.
