Mercadona's Hacendado Powdered Milk Offers Cheapest Protein per Euro in Spain
Mercadona’s own‑brand Hacendado powdered milk, sold for €5.40, provides the equivalent of seven litres of regular milk and contains 0.022 €/g of protein. According to a price‑index released by Daniel Lorrio, founder of precioproteina.com, this makes the product cheaper per gram of protein than 21 of the 25 sports‑supplement powders surveyed in Spain. The analysis also notes that vegan protein is now the cheapest category in the country, while whey isolate remains about 28 % more expensive per gram than standard whey. The findings highlight the growing appeal of supermarket‑based, protein‑rich foods as cost‑effective alternatives to specialised supplements.
