Merced experiences commercial expansion and business growth
Merced, California, is seeing significant commercial development as its population continues to grow, with officials expecting to surpass 100,000 residents by next year. This growth is largely attributed to the presence of UC Merced and Merced College.
New developments are currently under construction, including the Gateway Marketplace. Major retailers such as Costco are planning to relocate to this new complex from an older facility. Other businesses, including Ross, Burlington, Five Below, TJ Maxx, and HomeGoods, are also set to establish or expand their presence in the city.
City officials noted that the refurbishment of an abandoned Sears into the Shoppes at Merced acted as a catalyst for larger developers to increase interest in the region.
