Merced police investigate animal cruelty allegations involving a rescued husky

Merced police are investigating allegations of animal cruelty involving a husky named Sweetie. Reports indicate a homeless man allegedly dragged the dog on hot pavement while riding a bicycle. Additionally, the president of the Merced SPCA reported witnessing the man pick the dog up by the neck and slam her to the ground.

Authorities are compiling evidence of abuse and neglect to submit to the Merced County District Attorney’s Office for potential criminal charges. The investigation also includes an incident from August 7 outside a Taco Bell, which occurred shortly after the dog had been cleared by a veterinarian and returned to her owner.

Sweetie has since been taken into protective custody. Images and videos of the dog in poor condition, including the dog struggling with a tight muzzle and yelping while being pulled by her collar, have circulated widely online.
