Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 electric sedan sets Nürburgring record

On 28 July 2026, Mercedes‑AMG test driver Kevin Berger completed a certified lap of the Nürburgring‑Nordschleife in 7 minutes 32.070 seconds, establishing the fastest time for a four‑door electric sedan in its segment. The record was set in a fully production‑spec CLA 45 4MATIC+ – no body, suspension or power‑train modifications were made.

The CLA 45 is powered by three axial‑flux electric motors (two on the rear axle, one on the front) delivering a combined output of 500 kW (680 hp) and 1 759 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and carries a 94 kWh battery that provides a WLTP‑rated range of over 670 km, with 800‑volt fast‑charging up to 330 kW (10 % to 80 % in about 22 minutes). Advanced software – the Predictive Performance Manager – dynamically allocates power around the circuit, while active aerodynamics and torque‑vectoring all‑wheel drive optimise grip.

Mercedes‑AMG says the lap beats its internal gasoline predecessor by more than 13 seconds and is quicker than comparable compact‑class rivals such as the Audi RS 3 and Honda Civic Type R. The achievement is presented as a milestone for high‑performance electric vehicles and marks the first time the CLA 45 has been recognised as the quickest car in its class on the world‑renowned “Green Hell”.
