Mercedes-AMG expands electric lineup with high-performance SUV and GT sedan
Mercedes-AMG is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with high-performance models designed to compete with major luxury rivals. The brand has teased a new electric AMG SUV that is expected to utilize the dedicated AMG.EA platform. This upcoming SUV is anticipated to deliver performance exceeding 1,000 horsepower, drawing technological inspiration from the AMG GT series, including axial flux electric motors and 800-volt systems capable of rapid charging.
In the sedan segment, the AMG GT 53 4-Door electric is positioned to challenge the Porsche Taycan 4S and Tesla Model S Plaid. The GT 53 offers 544 hp and a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 3.9 seconds. Notably, the Mercedes model features a larger 106 kWh battery compared to its competitors, providing a significant range advantage of up to 809 km. Higher-tier variants like the GT 63 are expected to reach outputs as high as 1,169 hp.
