Mercedes-AMG G 63 rented for King Harald V’s funeral procession

Details have emerged regarding the vehicle used to pull King Harald V’s coffin during his funeral procession in Oslo. The Norwegian Armed Forces rented a Mercedes-AMG G 63, a top model in the G-Class series, for the occasion.

According to rental agreements between the military and Autocenteret Fjeldstad, the total cost for the assignment was 75,000 NOK. The agreement was finalized on August 28, the same day the King passed away. The military had originally intended to use a Mercedes-Benz 280CDI military field vehicle, but tests revealed that the model produced excessive noise and exhaust, necessitating an alternative.

The military issued specific requirements for the replacement vehicle, including a matte black finish that could be wrapped, a tow hitch, a minimum of five seats, and the ability to temporarily remove all logos and model markings to ensure a ‘clean’ appearance.
