Mercedes-AMG GLS63 receives midcycle facelift and engine updates

The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GLS63 has undergone a second facelift, aligning its styling with the brand’s latest design language. Key aesthetic changes include updated headlight designs featuring stacked three-pointed star daytime running lights and a revised grille and taillight configuration.

Under the hood, the AMG GLS63 retains its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 producing 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. However, the engine features significant internal revisions, including a new crankshaft utilizing a flat-plane design. This shift aims to improve combustion efficiency and meet stricter emissions regulations expected in Europe and China by 2027.

To mitigate the vibrations typically associated with flat-plane cranks, engineers implemented a new engine block featuring a pair of low-mounted balance shafts. This allows the vehicle to maintain performance and efficiency while preserving a refined driving experience. A detuned version of this updated M177 Evo engine will also power the standard GLS 580.
