Mercedes-AMG GT SUV debuts with high-performance electric powertrain

Mercedes-AMG has officially unveiled the GT SUV, its first large electric SUV developed independently on the dedicated AMG.EA platform. The vehicle aims to compete with high-end electric models like the Lotus Eletre and Porsche Cayenne Electric.

The lineup features multiple performance tiers. The entry-level GT 53 SUV utilizes a 106 kWh battery, delivering 400 kW (544 hp) and a WLTP range of approximately 663 km. Higher-performance variants, including the GT 55 and GT 63, will arrive next year featuring advanced axial flux motors developed by Yasa. The top-tier GT 63 is expected to produce up to 860 kW (1,169 hp) and can utilize a larger 128 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 700 km.

Technological highlights include ultra-fast charging capabilities. The GT 63 can reach a peak charging power of 710 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes when using compatible megawatt-class high-power chargers. To enhance the driving experience, the vehicle employs sound and vibration simulation technology to mimic engine notes and gear shifts, despite its purely electric drivetrain.
