Mercedes‑AMG launches electric CLA 45, 680 hp three‑motor EV

Mercedes‑AMG unveiled the all‑new CLA 45 4MATIC+ at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, replacing the previous ICE‑powered model with a fully electric powertrain. The compact performance sedan and Shooting‑Brake estate are equipped with three axial‑flux electric motors – two on the rear axle and one on the front – delivering a peak output of 500 kW (680 hp) and a continuous 450 kW (612 hp) with 1 759 Nm of torque. Acceleration is claimed at 0‑100 km/h in 2.7 s (roll‑out) or about 3 s in standard testing, and top speed is limited to 250 km/h, rising to 270 km/h with the AMG Dynamic Plus package.

The vehicle uses a 94 kWh lithium‑ion battery that provides a WLTP range of roughly 670 km for the sedan and 640 km for the Shooting‑Brake. An 800‑volt architecture enables DC fast‑charging at up to 330 kW, allowing a 10‑to‑80 % charge in 22 minutes, with a 10‑minute charge adding over 270 km of range. It features active aerodynamics, AMG Ride Control adaptive suspension, seven selectable drive modes and an AMGFORCE S+ mode that reproduces combustion‑engine sound, simulated gear‑shifts and seat‑shaker feedback.

Production is slated for later 2026 with deliveries expected in 2027 in markets such as Australia; pricing has not yet been announced.
