Mercedes-AMG tests autonomous driving at Nürburgring

Mercedes-AMG has conducted autonomous driving tests with a GT 63 prototype at the Nürburgring circuit. The testing focused on high-precision track mapping rather than speed, utilizing specialized hardware including GPS, lidar, and cameras to collect environmental and positional data.

The testing process involved the vehicle performing two separate laps to map the track edges. The first lap took just under 20 minutes, characterized by cautious movement and moderate acceleration. A second lap was completed slightly faster, though both remained significantly slower than the vehicle's manual performance capabilities.

A driver remained in the cabin solely for safety and emergency intervention, keeping hands away from the steering wheel. The data collected from these runs will be analyzed by engineers to refine the autonomous system's precision and performance for future development.
