Mercedes-AMG unveils GT 53 EV with extended range
Mercedes-AMG has introduced the GT 53, a more accessible base version of the GT 4-Door lineup. This dual-motor electric model prioritizes range over extreme power, utilizing a 106-kWh battery to achieve an expected WLTP range of up to 809 km.
The GT 53 produces 536 hp and 800 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.8 seconds. To improve efficiency, the vehicle features a mechanical decoupling module that allows it to operate as a rear-wheel-drive electric car when the front motor is not required for traction.
In comparison, the high-performance GT 63 variant utilizes three axial-flux motors to deliver 1153 hp. Meanwhile, the GT 55 remains a mid-tier option with 805 hp. The new GT 53 is positioned to compete with the base four-wheel-drive Porsche Taycan on price.
In separate performance evaluations, the Mercedes-AMG GT 55 4Matic+ has been tested against the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS. While the Porsche maintains advantages in weight and power, the AMG model has shown unexpected competitive capabilities in real-world driving scenarios.
