Mercedes-AMG unveils first in-house developed electric GT SUV
Mercedes-AMG has officially unveiled the 2028 AMG GT SUV, marking the first time the performance division has developed a full-size SUV from the ground up. Built on the dedicated high-performance AMG.EA electric architecture, the vehicle is designed to combine sports car dynamics with SUV versatility.
The lineup features three distinct variants: the GT 53, GT 55, and GT 63. The top-tier GT 63 SUV utilizes three axial-flux motors to deliver a peak output of 1,169 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 2.5 to 2.7 seconds. To enhance the driving experience, the vehicle includes simulated V8 engine sounds and virtual gear shifts that sync with seat vibrations.
Battery options include 106 kWh and 128 kWh capacities, supporting an 800-volt architecture. The high-capacity 128 kWh battery supports DC fast charging up to 710 kW, which can add approximately 450 km of WLTP range in just 10 minutes. In Germany, orders for the GT 53 are scheduled to begin in late October 2026, with higher performance models expected in spring 2027.
