Mercedes-AMG unveils limited CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung V8 coupe
Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung, a highly exclusive, track-focused coupe developed under the brand’s Mythos line. The vehicle is a custom-made, limited-production model, with all 30 units reportedly sold prior to its official presentation.
Built upon the CLE 53 platform, the 646 features a significant mechanical overhaul, replacing the standard six-cylinder engine with a 4.0-liter flat-plane crank V8 biturbo engine. This powertrain produces 646 hp and 850 Nm of torque. To prioritize performance over luxury, the vehicle has undergone a weight reduction of approximately 170 kg (375 lbs) through the extensive use of carbon fiber and the removal of non-essential components such as hybrid systems, all-wheel drive, and sound-dampening materials.
The coupe is rear-wheel drive, utilizing a nine-speed automatic transmission and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. The interior is stripped of typical luxury amenities, instead featuring racing-style bucket seats with six-point harnesses, carbon fiber door panels, and a roll cage. It also includes a specialized suspension system with four-way adjustable dampers and a bespoke titanium quad-tip exhaust system.
