Volvo and Mercedes-Benz expand NVIDIA partnerships for autonomous driving

Volvo Cars and Mercedes-Benz are expanding their strategic partnerships with NVIDIA to advance autonomous driving technologies.

Volvo Cars is integrating NVIDIA’s Hyperion sensor and compute architecture, Halos OS, and Alpamayo Stack software to develop next-generation vehicles capable of door-to-door automated driving. The collaboration aims to introduce “eyes-off” and “mind-off” capabilities, allowing drivers to reduce active attention during complex urban and highway scenarios. This initiative builds on a partnership established in 2017, combining Volvo’s safety research with NVIDIA’s artificial intelligence expertise.

Similarly, Mercedes-Benz is deepening its cooperation with NVIDIA to develop SAE Level 4 autonomous systems. By integrating the Mercedes MB.OS operating system with NVIDIA’s Hyperion and Alpamayo technologies, the companies aim to create systems that can manage entire driving tasks and respond to problems without human intervention. This follows Mercedes' previous achievement as the first manufacturer to receive Level 3 autonomous driving approval in Europe.
