Mercedes begins series production of axial‑flux electric motors for AMG models
Mercedes-Benz has started mass‑production of a new axial‑flux electric motor at its Berlin‑Marienfelde plant, marking the first time the technology is used in series production. The compact, high‑performance motor, developed with over 30 patents, will power the upcoming AMG GT 4‑Door Coupe and the CLA 45 4MATIC+.
At the same time, internal criticism has emerged over the fully electric AMG GT 4‑Door Coupe that debuted in Los Angeles. A senior manager reportedly said the model "should not have seen the light of day," citing weak market confidence and customer preference for traditional physical controls over the heavily digital interior.
