Mercedes-Benz and V2G technology expand in Germany and Denmark
Mercedes-Benz, in collaboration with The Mobility House, has launched the 'MB. Charge Home Pro Intelligent' concept in Germany. This vehicle-to-grid (V2G) initiative allows owners of compatible Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles to receive hourly payments for keeping their cars connected to a compatible 11 kW charging box.
The program initially rolls out to the GLC and C-Class models, with other models like the EQS and GLA expected to follow via over-the-air updates. While the technology is active in Germany, the legal and technical foundations are being established for a similar breakthrough in Denmark.
In Germany, the rollout faces some regulatory hurdles regarding solar energy; existing solar installations may be unable to participate in certain schemes until late 2027 due to tax rules that struggle to distinguish between self-generated green electricity and public grid power. Meanwhile, individual demonstrations of vehicle-to-home (V2H) technology, such as using a Hyundai Ioniq 9 to power a household for several days, highlight the growing practical application of bidirectional charging.
