Mercedes-Benz celebrates 70 years of Brazilian manufacturing
Mercedes-Benz is celebrating 70 years of its manufacturing plant in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil. The facility was inaugurated on September 28, 1956, by then-President Juscelino Kubitschek, marking the company's first factory outside of Germany.
Over seven decades, the plant has become a critical hub for Daimler Truck, serving as the only unit outside Germany to produce trucks, bus chassis, and components such as engines and gearboxes in a single location. The factory has produced more than 2.5 million commercial vehicles and played a key role in developing Brazil's automotive industry, including the introduction of the country's first diesel-powered trucks and buses.
Currently, Mercedes-Benz maintains a significant market share in Brazil, accounting for four out of every ten new trucks sold and six out of every ten buses registered. The Brazilian operation is recognized as a global reference for engineering and innovation within the Daimler Truck group.
