Mercedes-AMG unveils limited CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung
Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung, a highly exclusive, track-focused coupe belonging to the ultra-luxury Mythos series. Only 30 units will be produced, all of which were reportedly sold before the official announcement.
Built upon the CLE 53 platform, the vehicle has undergone a radical transformation at AMG’s headquarters in Affalterbach. Key mechanical changes include the replacement of the six-cylinder engine with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 (M177 EVO) featuring a flat-plane crankshaft. This engine produces 646 hp and 850 Nm of torque. Notably, the 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system has been removed in favor of a pure rear-wheel-drive configuration, aided by an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.
To enhance performance and reduce weight, the car is approximately 170 kg lighter than the standard model. Weight-saving measures include extensive use of carbon fiber for the bodywork, polycarbonate rear windows, and the removal of rear seats and sound insulation. The vehicle also features an Akrapovič titanium exhaust system, ceramic brakes, and a specialized suspension developed with KW Automotive. The CLE 646 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 310 km/h.
