Mercedes-Benz faces lawsuit over seat logos causing burns

Two Mercedes-AMG owners in California have filed a lawsuit against Mercedes-Benz, alleging that metallic logos on vehicle seats caused skin burns when heated by the sun. The plaintiffs, Gabriel Lahigani and Karina Bath, claim the decorative emblems act as hot plates when vehicles are parked in direct sunlight.

According to the legal action, Lahigani suffered first and second-degree burns while using a rental Mercedes-AMG E-Class in Los Angeles. Bath reported a similar incident involving intense burning sensations and subsequent dark marks on her skin that matched the shape of the AMG insignia.

The lawsuit seeks reimbursement for medical expenses, compensation for physical pain and emotional suffering, and a requirement for Mercedes to remove the metallic logos from affected models for any customers who formally request it. The plaintiffs argue that placing these decorative elements exactly where the body rests creates an unavoidable safety risk in hot climates.
