Mercedes-Benz launches limited electric CLA Shooting Brake in Japan

Mercedes-Benz Japan has launched the “CLA 200 Shooting Brake with EQ Technology Launch Edition,” a special edition marking the introduction of the CLA’s first battery electric vehicle (BEV) model. Limited to 50 units in Japan, the model is priced at 8.03 million yen.

Built on the new Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA), the Launch Edition includes premium features such as the AMG Line Plus, Night Package, and the MBUX Super Screen, which integrates a 14-inch media display and a 14-inch passenger display. The vehicle also features a large panoramic glass roof and 19-inch AMG alloy wheels with gold accents.

Technologically, the model utilizes a 58kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery, providing a maximum range of 513km (WLTC mode). It is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a 2-speed EV transmission. The vehicle runs on the proprietary MB.OS, which supports AI integration through assistants like ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini.

Design-wise, the new CLA follows the “Sensual Purity” philosophy, blending emotional beauty with intelligent simplicity. The updated model features a larger wheelbase and increased dimensions to improve interior space and passenger comfort while maintaining a sporty coupe-style silhouette.
