Mercedes-Benz launches new CLA line in Japan
Mercedes‑Benz Japan announced on 9 July 2026 the official release of the third‑generation CLA compact luxury model and its Shooting‑Brake variant. The cars use the new MMA (Mercedes‑Benz Modular Architecture) platform, supporting both a 1.5‑litre mild‑hybrid gasoline engine with a 48 V system and a fully electric high‑performance AMG CLA 45 4MATIC+ that produces 680 PS and sprints from 0‑100 km/h in about 3 seconds. Prices for the standard CLA start at ¥5.98 million for the CLA 180 and ¥6.87 million for the CLA 220, with the Shooting‑Brake versions costing ¥6.21‑7.10 million. A limited‑edition “Launch Edition” of 350 CLA 180 units is offered at ¥6.99 million, featuring exclusive AMG wheels, night‑package trim and a standard MBUX Super Screen. The models incorporate the latest MB. OS software, ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini integration, OTA updates, and safety upgrades such as a centre airbag, the first in their segment. The AMG‑branded CLA 45 EV uses a three‑motor Yasa system, a 94 kWh battery and optional AMG Dynamic‑Plus for a top speed of up to 270 km/h.
