Mercedes-Benz launches ultra-secure S-Class Guard VR10, signals move into defence vehicle market
Mercedes-Benz unveiled the S 680 Guard 4MATIC, a limousine built for heads of state, royal families and high‑profile executives. The S‑Class Guard VR10 features a 6.0‑litre V12 twin‑turbo engine, all‑wheel drive and the highest VR10 ballistic‑resistance certification for both transparent and opaque body panels. Integrated Protection System technology, a reinforced aluminium chassis, an internal fire‑suppression system, emergency fresh‑air supply, external communication, panic alarm and servo‑assist doors combine extreme protection with the brand’s usual comfort, including a rear lounge equipped with MBUX high‑end rear‑seat entertainment for productivity and video conferencing.
Mercedes‑Benz’s chief executive also indicated the company may expand into the defence sector, exploring the supply of specialised military vehicles such as off‑road Sprinter vans and specially equipped G‑Class models. This reflects a broader strategic interest in providing armed forces and security agencies with rugged, armoured transport solutions.
