Mercedes-Benz marks 100 years since Benz and Daimler merger
Mercedes-Benz marks the 100th anniversary of the merger between automotive pioneers Benz and Daimler. The union, which formed Daimler-Benz AG, was officially presented through its first product portfolio at the Berlin Automobile Salon in October 1926.
The merger, which was encouraged by Deutsche Bank to facilitate the exchange of claims for corporate shares, introduced the iconic three-pointed star logo. Early significant models included the Mercedes-Benz 8/38 PS (W02), the 12/55 PS (W03), and the Type K, which served as a precursor to the brand's legendary sports car lines.
In addition to passenger cars, the company launched a new commercial vehicle program featuring revolutionary front-axle concepts. Today, Mercedes-Benz is recognized by rating experts such as Interbrand as one of the world's most valuable premium brands.
