Mercedes-Benz offers historical documentation for classic vehicles

Mercedes-Benz has introduced a service offering official "birth certificates" for passenger cars manufactured between 1986 and 2010. These documents, available through the Mercedes-Benz Classic Store, are derived from archived company records to provide a detailed summary of a vehicle's original configuration at the time of delivery.

For a fee of 130 EUR, owners can obtain a document that includes the VIN, vehicle type, body style, and date of shipment, as well as specific details such as engine and transmission numbers, original paint color, interior design, and factory-ordered optional equipment. Alexandra Süß of Mercedes-Benz Heritage GmbH stated that the certificates aim to create "a direct connection between a specific automobile and its history."

The service covers various model series including the E-Class, S-Class, A-Class, C-Class, R-Class, SL, and SLK, though it currently excludes AMG models, vans, and Smart vehicles. To order, owners must provide the vehicle's VIN and proof of ownership.

Separately, the company's history in electromobility is noted, highlighting early electric developments ranging from the 1906 Lohner-Porsche licenses to the production of the 308 E electric transporter in the 1990s, which featured a 22 kWh battery and was utilized by utility providers like RWE.
