Mercedes-Benz recalls 30,064 S-Class and Maybach vehicles in the US

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 30,064 vehicles due to a defect in the front brake hoses that could rupture and cause brake fluid to leak. This issue may increase stopping distances and heighten the risk of a collision. The recall, identified by the NHTSA as 26V638, is an expansion of a previous service action.

The affected vehicles include various models of the S-Class and Maybach S-Class, specifically: - 2022-2025 S 500 4MATIC - 2022-2025 S 580 4MATIC - 2022-2025 Maybach S 580 4MATIC - 2022-2025 Maybach S 680 4MATIC - 2023-2025 S 580 E 4MATIC - 2024-2025 AMG S 63 E 4MATIC+

The vehicles were manufactured between February 2, 2021, and November 28, 2024. The manufacturer identified Continental Automotive Technologies as the supplier of the hoses that failed to meet durability specifications.

While the vehicles utilize a dual-circuit braking system that allows for some braking capability if one circuit fails, the overall braking performance is significantly degraded. Drivers may receive no warning of the impending failure until a red brake fluid warning light appears on the digital instrument cluster. Authorized dealers will replace the front brake hoses free of charge.
