Mercedes‑AMG GLE 63 S and GLS 63 SUVs Receive Updated 4.0 L V8 with Mild‑Hybrid Boost

Mercedes‑AMG has refreshed its top‑tier performance SUVs, the GLE 63 S and GLS 63, for the 2026‑2027 model years. Both models now house the M177 EVO 4.0‑litre twin‑turbo V8, featuring a flat‑plane crankshaft, revised turbo housings, new camshafts, upgraded fuel injection and emissions hardware. The engine delivers 612 hp (604‑627 hp in some reports) and 850 Nm of torque, while a 48‑volt mild‑hybrid system adds roughly 23 hp and 205 Nm of assist.

Performance figures remain strong: the GLE 63 S accelerates 0‑100 km/h in about 3.9 seconds, the larger GLS 63 in 4.2 seconds, with a top speed limited to 280 km/h (174 mph). chassis upgrades include Ride Control+ air suspension, AMG Active Ride Control that scans road movement up to 1,000 times per second, and a standard locking rear differential. Styling updates comprise a new AMG grille, larger air intakes, revised LED lighting, and larger alloy wheels (22‑inch on the GLE, up to 23‑inch on the GLS). An AMG Performance exhaust with adjustable valves provides selectable sound levels.

These changes aim to keep the V8 powertrain viable under stricter emissions rules while enhancing responsiveness and driver engagement. Pricing is expected to start around £145,000 for the GLE 63 S and £160,000 for the GLS 63 when they reach dealers later in the year.
