Mercedes-Benz selects Namibia for global 140-year anniversary expedition
Mercedes-Benz has selected Namibia as one of only five African nations to host its “140 Years. 140 Places” global expedition. The international roadshow commemorates the 140th anniversary of the invention of the automobile by Carl Benz.
From August 22 to 27, a convoy of three Mercedes-Benz S-Class flagship vehicles—named Carl, Gottlieb, and Bertha—will traverse the country. The route includes destinations such as the Zambezi Region, Divundu, Rundu, Windhoek, and Fish River Canyon. The expedition aims to highlight Namibia’s scenic landscapes while promoting the nation as a destination for tourism and foreign direct investment.
The selection of Namibia is also rooted in the country’s history with the automaker. Mercedes-Benz has utilized Namibia’s challenging environments for testing vehicle prototypes in the past. The initiative is a collaboration involving the Namibia Tourism Board, the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board, and M&Z Motors Namibia to maximize the country’s international exposure.
