Mercedes-Benz announces new AMG GT SUV and compact G-Class models
Mercedes-Benz is expanding its vehicle lineup with two significant new models. The company has unveiled the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV, its first full-size SUV developed entirely in-house. Based on the high-performance AMG.EA architecture, the GT SUV will be available in three variants: the GT 53, GT 55, and GT 63. The top-tier GT 63 model features three axial flux electric motors delivering up to 1,169 hp, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds. The vehicle supports ultra-fast DC charging up to 710 kW, which can add up to 450 km of range in ten minutes.
Additionally, Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius confirmed that a smaller, more accessible version of the iconic G-Class, often referred to as the ‘Baby G’, is expected to debut within the next 24 months, likely by 2028. Unlike the standard G-Class, this compact model will utilize a dedicated ladder-frame chassis to maintain off-road capabilities. While originally planned as a purely electric vehicle, Mercedes has adjusted its strategy to include hybrid powertrain options to meet shifting market demands.
