Mercedes-Benz to maintain SUV Coupe lineup amid strong demand
Mercedes-Benz has affirmed its commitment to the SUV Coupe segment, despite previous rumors that the company might streamline its lineup by discontinuing certain models. Christoph Starzynski, Vice President of Product Strategy and Management at Mercedes-Benz, stated that there is strong demand for these vehicles due to their combination of spacious interiors and sporty driving characteristics.
While reports earlier in 2024 suggested that models like the GLC Coupe and GLE Coupe might be phased out to rationalize the brand's offerings, the planned return of the GLE Coupe in 2027 indicates a continued focus on this niche. The lineup currently includes three SUV Coupe models and three four-door Coupe models, ranging from standard versions to high-performance AMG 53 and 63 variants.
Mercedes-Benz is not alone in maintaining this segment; competitors such as Audi, BMW, Genesis, and Porsche continue to offer Coupe versions of their popular SUVs. However, some manufacturers have moved in different directions, such as Infiniti discontinuing the QX55 and Volkswagen ending production of the ID.5 in Europe.
