Mercedes-Benz to test ProLogium Gen4 ceramic battery cells
Mercedes-Benz has entered into a joint testing agreement with ProLogium to evaluate the company’s Gen4 lithium ceramic battery cells for potential use in future electric vehicles. The partnership, which dates back to 2016, grants the German automaker priority access to the new technology for electrical, thermal, and safety trials conducted at Mercedes-Benz facilities and external institutes.
The Gen4 cells utilize a non-flammable inorganic electrolyte and a ceramic separator, designed to optimize fast charging, high power output, and performance in cold weather. ProLogium aims to balance five key design pillars: safety, performance, energy density, scalable manufacturing, and cost. This new platform follows the company’s previous Gen3 hybrid-solid-state technology.
ProLogium is working toward large-scale production, including a planned manufacturing plant in Dunkirk, France, with a capacity of up to 44 GW/h. Mercedes-Benz, which holds a seat on the ProLogium board, also supports the battery developer’s planned Nasdaq listing in the fourth quarter of 2026.
