Mercedes-Benz Türk considers electric truck production in Turkey

Mercedes-Benz Türk CEO Heiko Selzam has indicated that the company may begin producing electric trucks at its Aksaray facility, depending on market demand and infrastructure development. Speaking at the IAA Transportation 2026 event, Selzam emphasized that Turkey serves as a multi-faceted strategic hub for Daimler Truck, encompassing manufacturing, engineering, R&D, sales, and service operations.

The company has a significant investment history in Turkey, totaling approximately 4.5 billion Euros. Future investments are expected to focus not only on production infrastructure but also on human resources, training, dealer networks, and digital solutions.

While the Aksaray plant is a critical part of the global production network—producing approximately seven out of every ten trucks manufactured and exported by the brand—transitioning to electric vehicle production would require additional investments in battery assembly, high-voltage safety, and new quality processes. The feasibility of local production remains contingent on market conditions, charging infrastructure, and total cost of ownership for fleet operators.
