Mercedes‑AMG G63 G‑Class Cabriolet slated for 2027 launch

Mercedes‑Benz has released the first official images of a new high‑performance G‑Class Cabriolet, confirmed as an AMG‑tuned G63 version. The open‑top SUV will feature an electrically folding fabric roof that retracts into the rear of the vehicle, retaining all four doors, the signature spare‑wheel mounted on the tailgate and a third brake light integrated into that wheel. Production is planned for the Magna Steyr plant in Graz, Austria, where the regular G‑Class has been built since 1979.

The powertrain is expected to use the AMG G63 4.0‑litre V8 biturbo engine – around 585 hp – paired with the 4MATIC all‑wheel‑drive system. Pricing is projected near €200 000 (about US$200 000). The model marks the return of a G‑Class Cabriolet after a ten‑year hiatus, with an official unveiling scheduled for 2027. Mercedes reported a record 49,700 G‑Class units sold worldwide in 2025, underscoring strong demand for the model.

The teaser images show a camouflage‑styled body, an automatic roof operation mechanism, and limited rear‑view visibility due to the spare wheel and roof package – compromises aimed at affluent buyers who value the open‑air experience alongside the vehicle’s off‑road capability.
