Mercedes City Council approves waste agreement and fire station funding

The Honorable Concejo Deliberante of Mercedes has passed several key measures during recent sessions. The ruling party approved an agreement with CEAMSE regarding urban waste disposal and the recognition of debt for freight services. However, opposition councilman Bernardo Zubeldía criticized the move, alleging accounting discrepancies. Zubeldía noted that while calculations for 824 trips suggested a total of approximately 651 million pesos including VAT, the approved amount was set at 718 million pesos, a difference of roughly 66 million pesos. He also claimed the municipal executive ignored warnings from the internal controller regarding unregistered debt from previous years.

In a separate unanimous decision, the Council approved new funding for the construction of the Volunteer Firefighters Detachment in Gowland. This disbursement, requested by Mayor Juan Ignacio Ustarroz, aims to advance the building's construction to ensure better emergency response times for Gowland, Agote, and surrounding rural areas. Council President Mariana San Martín highlighted the legislative consensus achieved across all political blocs to support this strategic community project.
