Mercedes CLA overtakes Audi A5 in German mid-size segment

In July, the Mercedes CLA overtook the Audi A5 as the leading model in the mid-size car segment in Germany. According to data from the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), 3,704 units of the Mercedes CLA were registered in July, representing a 149 percent increase compared to the same month last year.

The Mercedes CLA is positioned as a key model for the manufacturer in Europe, offered with both hybrid powertrains and a fully electric version featuring an 800-volt system and a potential range of nearly 800 kilometers. However, the extended version of the CLA has seen limited success in the Chinese market.

Overall, Mercedes outperformed Audi in total registrations for July, with 26,624 vehicles registered compared to Audi's 17,432. While the mid-size segment saw a shift, most other segments remained stable. The Volkswagen Golf remained Germany's best-selling car with 9,001 registrations, while the Mercedes S-Class led the luxury segment and the Audi A6 led the upper mid-size segment.
