Mercedes expands EV lineup with budget GLC models and high‑performance AMG GT

Mercedes‑Benz unveiled lower‑priced variants of its new electric GLC crossover. The GLC 250 EQ, powered by a rear motor, delivers 354 hp, while the GLC 300 4MATIC EQ adds a front motor for a combined 422 hp. Both use an 85 kWh lithium‑ion pack borrowed from the CLA EV, offering WLTP ranges of 665 km (250) and 645 km (300) and ultra‑fast 320 kW DC charging that raises the battery from 10 % to 80 % in about 22 minutes. Future options slated for 2027 include a GLC 200 EQ with a 313‑hp rear motor and a 64 kWh LFP battery targeting roughly 740 km of range, and a GLC 300+ EQ with a larger 94 kWh pack. The performance‑focused AMG GLC 53 is expected later this year.

Separately, AMG introduced an all‑electric GT 4‑Door Coupé, replacing the petrol model with a three‑motor layout—two rear and one front—using compact axial‑flux motors. The GT 63 version reaches 1,169 hp, accelerating 0‑62 mph in 2.1 seconds and topping out at 186 mph. Its battery incorporates Formula‑1‑inspired cooled cylindrical cells, allowing a 10‑80 % charge in roughly 11 minutes on ultra‑rapid chargers. The car features a synthetic V8 sound mode, active air suspension, rear‑wheel steering and active aero. Deliveries in the UK are planned for summer 2026.
