George Russell addresses Mercedes technical issues and title race

Mercedes Formula 1 driver George Russell has addressed the technical and competitive challenges he faced during the first half of the 2026 season. Russell revealed that previous struggles with straight-line speed, which he initially attributed to his driving style, were actually caused by software issues within the power unit. He noted that these issues were resolved in Hungary and should not recur.

Despite the technical breakthrough, Russell remains 59 points behind his teammate, Kimi Antonelli, in the championship standings. He has stated that he will not prioritize helping Antonelli in the title race, emphasizing the need to focus on team development and his own performance. Russell expressed confidence in Mercedes and team principal Toto Wolff, noting that he feels secure in his position despite the intense competition from McLaren, Red Bull, and Ferrari.

Heading into the second half of the season, Russell aims to drive more instinctively and build momentum through upcoming triple-header race weekends.
