Mercedes-Maybach GLS unveiled with V8 mild‑hybrid and illuminated grille

Mercedes‑Maybach has launched the updated GLS 680 for 2026‑27, the top‑of‑the‑range luxury SUV in the brand’s line‑up. It is powered by a 4.0‑litre V8 twin‑turbo mild‑hybrid unit delivering 450 kW (603 hp) and 850 Nm of torque, paired with a 48‑volt starter‑generator that adds 17 kW of boost. Exterior changes include a new radiator grille with a illuminated outline, the Maybach name glowing within the grille, and optional illuminated star on the bonnet. The 23‑inch forged wheels feature a self‑leveling central star that stays vertical as the wheel turns. Inside, the cabin receives new Nappa leather upholstery, walnut‑grain wood or high‑gloss diamond‑pattern trim, and an expanded MBUX Superscreen that combines three 12.3‑inch displays under a single glass panel. Rear seats now have calf‑massaging functions and a glass‑fronted refrigerated compartment for two champagne bottles. The audio system is a Burmester 3D Surround Sound with 15 speakers and 710 W output. The suspension uses AIRMATIC air springs plus an Intelligent Predictive Damping system that receives road‑condition data from preceding vehicles via the Mercedes‑Benz Intelligent Cloud, allowing the vehicle to adjust damping before it reaches a bump. An optional E‑Active Body Control system reads and reacts to driving conditions up to 1,000 times per second. Orders open in Europe at the end of July 2026, with deliveries already available in China and planned for the United States later in the year.
