Mercedes Martinez retires from wrestling after ACL tear

Professional wrestling veteran Mercedes Martinez has announced her retirement from in-ring competition following a serious knee injury. The 45-year-old, who has competed for major promotions including WWE, AEW, and Ring of Honor, suffered a torn ACL during an August 15 match against Allie Katch for 2CW.

Martinez was currently in the midst of her ‘Last Run Tour,’ a series of independent appearances intended to wind down her career. While she had originally planned to retire from full-time wrestling at the end of 2026 and continue performing occasionally, she stated that the severity of the injury makes a return to the ring impossible.

In a social media announcement, Martinez expressed heartbreak over the abrupt conclusion of her 25-year career. She noted that while a torn ACL might not end the career of every athlete, her personal circumstances and physical recovery requirements necessitate this decision. She clarified that while she is stepping away from active competition, she intends to remain connected to the wrestling industry in other capacities.
