Mercedes owner appeals Hanoi court ruling on vehicle damage
A Mercedes-Benz owner in Hanoi has filed an appeal following a court ruling that ordered a defendant to pay only 671,000 VND in compensation for scratches caused to her vehicle.
The incident occurred on January 18, when the victim parked her Mercedes-Benz GLC200 in front of the residence of Mai Thi Bich Van. Following a dispute regarding the vehicle's position blocking a gate, Van used a set of keys to scratch the car.
A first-instance court sentenced Van to six months of suspended prison time for “intentionally damaging property.” However, the vehicle owner is appealing the decision, requesting a reassessment of evidence and damages. The appellant is seeking compensation for lost rental income—noting a contract valued at 35 million VND per month—as well as alternative transportation costs totaling over 7 million VND.
